I realize now that it’s March and this post should have probably come out at the beginning of January. But better late than never! I wanted to walk through our home renovations wish list and everything we plan to tackle in 2022. Some projects have already been completed or in the works. And honestly, a lot of things Kurt and I don’t agree on haha. But we will kind of take it one thing at a time. We knew this house was going to be a lot of work when we first bought it. But I’m actually really excited at how far we have already come. I have so many big plans for it! That will all probably take many, many years to complete.
Home Renovations Wish List
Paint Our Stairs and Add Carpet
Stairs after
Stairs before renovations
…
Oh boy, when we fist moved in the stairs had carpet on them and it was awful! Stained and gross and just plain ugly! You can see the before in this post. We had them rip out the carpet when we went to re-do the floors. And what was left over was just as bad. If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you know that we finally had our stairs painted and completed this January. They turned out phenomenal!!! I cannot believe the difference. Every time I walk upstairs now (which happens to be about 500 times a day haha), I have a smile on my face. I just love them!
Now that they are painted and pretty looking, we do plan to add a runner down them. Originally, that wasn’t in the plan. But my contractor told me a few horror stories about kids falling down stairs and right then and there I decided we needed something. This is kind of what I am thinking. I want to do something fun for sure! And I plan on stepping out from my comfort zone on this one.
Re-do Pantry
Pantry after
Pantry before
…
I have a pretty small pantry. Although I am honestly thankful to have anything! I don’t mind it being small, but the way it was set up was just not optimizing the space at all. And not to mention, it had wire racking in it. So everything always fell over! It was such a pain! I had our contractor build me shelves and we were even able to add another shelf in their to maximize storage even more. This was a quick project and has already been completed. I love how it turned out. We are so much more organized and everything has a home now.
Paint Trim Around the House
Everyone told me that I was silly for even doing this, but I could not stand it! We had our house painted first and then had our floors redone. So when they were staining the floors they got the stain on the ends of the trim. And they also replaced the show molding in white. Well, it never even dawned on me that white shoe molding would need to be caulked and painted the same white as my trim. Because what I have come to find out is that not all white is the same!!! This was another project we had completed in January and just looks so good. It finally feels ‘done.’ It was honestly, a pretty simple project, but just a pain because everything had to be moved to the middle of the room and then put back.
Electrical Work
This is the not so fun stuff that just needs to be done. When my Dad was in town in November, he and Kurt were trying to figure out why one of our plugs was not working. Well, they couldn’t figure it out. But he made it very clear that our electrical situation was a mess and needed to be cleaned up rather soon. A lot of it was all original. I don’t really understand all of it to be honest, but I know I will sleep better at night knowing its all updated. We had this completed a couple of weeks ago so I can check this off the list too!
Complete Our Den
This is a project I am most excited about!! We have a room in the back that is completely unfurnished and an open canvas. It needs a lot of TLC, but when it’s done, I know it will probably be one of our most used rooms. Right now we have Sloane’s toys set up back there so we do use it. But there is no where to sit haha.
The room actually has that ugly old wood paneling in it. Right now it is painted a blue, which is nice, but I CANNOT stand the wood paneling look with the seams. It looks like shiplap which I HATE! To me shiplap is the updated version of wood paneling- yuck! So anyways, we are going to mud over the seams to make the walls smooth. And then I am going to add wallpaper! This is the paper that I have chosen! We also have this random heater in the wall that I don’t even think works. So that will be removed so the couch can sit flush to the wall.
Eventually we will buy a couch, hang the TV, add storage for Sloane’s toys, new light, paint, etc. I actually just gave my contractor the go ahead to get started in this room. So I am really hoping it can be completed in the next few weeks. I even ordered the wallpaper.
Here is my design board for this room!
Wallpaper | Flush Mount Light | Couch | Ottoman | Scallop Side Table | Lamp | Rug | Rattan Console | Kid’s Table and Chairs
Re-do Powder Bath
Our powder bath on our first floor is in rough shape. Honestly, everything in it needs to go. We could probably salvage the granite and vanity, but if we are going to update it, I would rather just do it right the first time and go with quartz. Originally the wallpaper we are now going to use in the den was going to go in this bathroom- I love this paper! But after talking it over with my contractor, I like it a lot better for our den. So it is back to the drawing boards. I really like this one, but I think I want something outside of blue. My whole house is blue and I want something, fun and bold and out there for this bathroom so I’m still on the hunt. I have a little time because we probably won’t get to this project until fall time anyway.
Re-tile Front Entry
For whatever reason when they re-did our floors, they didn’t remove the old flooring in our entry. It is a really small space so I want to do fun tile. This should hopefully be a pretty quick and easy project. Now I just need to pick some tile!
Paint and Re-tile Basement Stairs
We have a little landing down to our basement and I didn’t have this painted when we moved in because I knew we would want to re-tile it and I thought we would just do this all at once. The tile is original with the house so it is OLD. And really gross looking. Our contractor actually recommended we carpet the stairs because it would be cheaper, but we also had a flood when we first moved in. So I’m not sure if we will want to deal with carpet if we ever get a flood again.
Buy a Bed
Honestly, I am putting this on here so I actually make a decision and finally order one haha. When we first moved in, we had this canopy bed which I loved! But the canopy part was all one, large piece. And it would not fit up our staircase because it turns at the top. So I sold it and we have been sleeping on the floor since we moved in. I keep going back to this one so I think that is probably what I will go with.
Yard
We have so much to do in the yard its unreal. This is going to be something we probably tackle every year because it is going to take a long time to complete. Right now, my cousin is helping us make a design for the landscaping. Because right now I’m not really a fan of anything. There is a lot of green and I want some more color. And our front landscaping needs some help. So he is helping us design something fabulous that we will tackle bit by bit every year.
Phew, ok that seems like a lot of work haha. Home renovations are tiring, but little by little this home is starting to feel like a home. And a home that I love!
