Yesterday, our pomsky puppy turned two and I can’t get over how fast time has gone by! It seems like just yesterday we welcomed her into our family and now she is two years old. Or should I say she’s a young adult now (she is 14 in dog years). She has completely changed our lifestyle- for the better and I seriously can’t image what life would be like without her as our dog. When you think about getting a puppy, you think oh it’s pretty easy. They just need to go to the bathroom, take them on some walks and feed them. But there is so much more to it. Puppies are hard work! And then adding the fact that we live in an apartment in the city with no backyard or grass just adds to the stress.
I had been wanting a puppy for a while. Eventually Kurt and I want to have kids and I thought we needed a little more responsibility before we had kids. Sure we have our two cats, but cats are so easy and independent. They need food and water, the occasional belly rub and a clean liter box. After some convincing Kurt finally decided to get a dog. Once we settled on the pomsky breed, I went to work researching breeders. I spent all day looking into breeders and trying to get on a waiting list. One particular breeder emailed me back right away and said she wasn’t going to have a liter for awhile, but she knew of another breeder who just had a liter of pomskies! We were in luck because none of the puppies had been given a home yet and we had first pick.
When Kurt and I decided on a pomsky puppy, we had a certain vision in our heads of what she would like look. I remember the breeder emailing me a picture of the only female puppy she had in her liter. I was walking to the train that day after work and after opening up the attachment, I immediately got a warm feeling. She was perfect and she was the exact vision of what we thought our pomsky would look like! I immediately knew she was ‘the one’, as silly as that sounds!
Addison is a pomsky, contrary to what a lot of people think haha. Most people think she is a husky because of her size. But when you see her side by side with a husky, you do notice a difference. Addie is a lot more petite, her feet are not as wide and she doesn’t have the ‘independent’ personality that most huskies have. She is a lot bigger than we expected her to be, but we love her too much to care about it! Most pomskies are smaller in size at around 25-30 pounds. Today Addison is 49.5 pounds of pure love. Addie is 75% husky and 25% Pomeranian. Her mom was an 80 pound husky and her dad was a pomsky, so that’s why she has a little more husky in her and also probably why she is a little bigger than most pomskies.
Addie is seriously the best dog! She loves long walks and is very social. Everyone in our building loves her and every time she see someone she says hi with her growl/bark. She is super friendly to all of the dogs and always wants to play. Addie isn’t a typical dog- she has some very unusual traits haha! She doesn’t bark or greet you when you come home. After awhile she sort of just meanders over and says hi when she feels like it. She will only go potty in the same spot in our dog area. Very rarely does she go anywhere else and even when we visit our parents houses, she goes in the same spots. Her favorite human food is cheese and begs and barks everytime you eat it. I swear she can hear you open a package of string cheese from across the street! Our cat Charlie (the white one) and her are best buds, but at times we think she wants to kill him. Addie likes to latch on to Charlie and pull on his little head. It scares Mom and Dad a lot! She doesn’t really get along with our other cat Frank, but that’s because Frank is sort of a bully and likes to tease Addie. Things have gotten a lot better between the two of them, but they still can’t be in the same room. Addie is a head turner and it’s rare on our walks if people don’t stop us to tell us how beautiful she is. She is the best pup and just a blessing to our family!
