Happy New Year! What did you do to celebrate? Kurt and I decided we would spend it together and went out to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Beatrix. If you haven’t been to the new location in Fulton Market, I highly recommend it! We go there all the time for brunch (the lemon pancakes are like nothing I’ve ever had before!). Or we grab a quick coffee and a muffin. And I absolutely love their cocktails. They make their own juices so everything is very fresh. I always get the Blueberry Vodka Collins and it is so delicious. Their philosophy is healthy comfort food, so you get all the delicious tastes of all the foods you love without the heavy calorie intake. I always come home feeling full, but never overly stuffed.
Ok, anyways I’ve digressed a little. I want to talk to you about my 2018 goals that I have set for myself. I’m not really one to do this, but I did this last year and I felt like it really helped me to stay on track throughout the year. Time flies by and sometimes we get wrapped up in the day to day life. I don’t want to be one of those persons that wakes up one day and completely regrets not being the person I want to be. So here is what I want to concentrate on this year!
Be more organized
It’s funny because I really do think that I am an organized person, but I know I can do a much better job with being more organized in my home life. We live in a small space so staying on top of stuff is vital for me. I hate clutter and my solution is always to shove it into a drawer or cupboard. Well, that’s not working either! I then open those drawers and I can’t find anything!
I’ve already kind of started on this goal. If you follow me on Instagram and watch my stories, I showed you how I organized my bathroom drawers. They were a huge mess! So, I decided to head to the Container Store and find a solution. I bought some drawer organizers and as silly as it seems, I already feel so much more organized. I plan on tackling more projects this winter like my closet and shoes, so stay tuned.
Stay off my phone after 8pm
I am a huge sleeper and need at least 7.5-8 hours of sleep every night. Just ask my husband because I’m a really grouch when I don’t get my sleep. And these days I’m pretty much addicted to my phone or computer. I’m always on Instagram or shopping or writing blog posts. No shame in that! But I have noticed that I don’t sleep as soundly when I’m on my phone right before I go to bed. I’ve actually read into this a bit too. The light that your phone emits makes you feel more awake thus resulting in poorer quality of sleep. It makes sense, but at the same time sometimes I just can’t put it down.
So, my goal this is year to put all the electronics down by 8pm. I usually go to bed around 9 or 9:30 (I get up at 5:20 every morning and a girl needs her sleep), so 8 is the perfect amount of time for me to unwind. I can watch a show, do a face mask and cuddle with Addie. And still get a good night’s sleep!
Find a workout routine and stick to it
I love to workout mostly because it helps me sleep so much better. I always notice when I’m not working out as much how my sleep also suffers from it. But I also love the way it makes me feel. You feel stronger and overall, just better about yourself. It’s my stress relief after a long day and it’s a little bit of ‘me’ time that I take to myself every day.
Earlier this past year, our building was offering free workout classes that I attended regularly. It was so simple to just walk downstairs and there was no excuse. I also had Kurt doing them with me so I had a buddy to keep me in check. Well, a few months ago they canceled the classes and I said I would still be consistent, but I wasn’t! I’ve read into this workout called BBG that I’ve seen a lot of women doing lately. I have tried a few workouts, but again have not been consistent. Essentially it is a workout that you can do anywhere and it is less than 30 minutes six days a week. I plan on doing a whole post about this workout in a couple of weeks so stay tuned!
Keep track of all of my successes
This year has been an emotional one for me. I haven’t shared this with you yet and I will, but I’m just not ready right now. It’s consumed a lot of me and it’s all I can’t think about when I look back at 2017. The funny thing is I know 2017 was a great year! It’s just hard to remember the successes sometimes. So, this year I’m changing that up! I’m keeping track of all the good times and accomplishments, so I can look back at the end of 2018 and realize how great of a year it really was. My plan is to keep a running tally in my phone and I can read them again at the end of the year.
Stay on top of finances
This was actually a goal of mine in 2017 and I’m continuing it into 2018 and probably for the rest of my life haha. In 2017, Kurt and I met with a financial advisor and it was so exhilarating for me. We talked about anything from disability insurance, life insurance, savings, 401k’s, saving for retirement, etc. While we already had a lot of that in place, it is so helpful to have someone looking over everything and guiding you in the right direction so we can eventually retire. After those meetings, I’m always so excited and optimistic for the future.
And my goal for you….
I’m not going to bore you with my list of goals that I have for this blog because there are so many! But I will promise to you that I will be more open and share my life more. I’ve gotten great feedback from everyone who watches my Instagram stories! And I promise I will continue doing more of those. I’m actually a very private person and it takes me a while to feel comfortable and trust, so it might have taken me a little longer than other bloggers to open up. But I promise you, I will share more of my life this year!
Thank you for stopping by and I hope I’ve inspired you to set some of your own personal goals for 2018. What do you plan on accomplishing this year?
