I took these photos months ago and realized I never shared them on the blog. So today, we are going on an apartment tour!
We’ve lived in our current apartment for almost two years now. And shockingly this is the longest place we have lived in. We typically move every year to year and a half, which is crazy. But looking back I loved that we did that. We’ve lived all over the city and you get such a different experience from a neighborhood when you actually live in it. We have found restaurants that we typically might not go to. But because they are within walking distance, they are so easy to stumble into.
I’ve lived in Lincoln Park, Bucktown, Logan Square and currently the West Loop. And hands down, the West Loop is my absolute favorite neighborhood. I love that you are close to the freeway so it’s easy access to get anywhere really. And our drives back to Michigan are much quicker because you can hop right on and off the freeway. You would be surprised at how bad traffic can be, so if it even cuts off 20 minutes off that long drive- I’m all for it.
The West Loop has by far been my favorite neighborhood to live in. We have lived in this area for over three years now- our last move was just up the street. The neighborhood has some of best restaurants in town, all within walking distance. I hardly ever wear heels anymore because we are always opting to walk to dinner. And everything is so dog friendly! There are three dog parks all within a three mile radius so our pup gets pretty spoiled.
I know everyone’s initial reaction when they walk into our apartment is the size. It can feel a bit small sometimes, but I like to call it cozy. Truthfully, this is my absolute favorite place we have ever lived. It might be on the smaller side but it doesn’t bother me. We have made it all work! And it’s just Kurt and I and the animals, so we don’t need a lot of space. We’ve enjoyed this enormous kitchen too! It’s enormous by Chicago standards haha. And all of the natural light we get year round. It might sound crazy, but there are times during the winter time we actually have to turn on the AC. The sun beats down and with all the windows it gets hot.
We are both starting to get the itch to move so likely in March when our lease is up we will move out of this space. The rooms are tiny and we are starting to feel a little more cramped in the space. Addie needs some room to run in!

And I wanted to share these pictures because we actually bought a new couch! I never expected to buy one so soon (we just bought this one when we moved in two years ago). But the navy one just isn’t pet friendly at all! The hair sticks so badly to it. I swear, Kurt and I vacuum it together for what seems like forever, and the hair still sticks to it. It’s so frustrating because we spent a lot of time researching and deciding on this couch. And they don’t come cheap either! Chalk it up to one of those life lessons. But now I’m excited for our new couch to arrive and re-decorate a little.
It’s funny because we decided on a new one over Labor Day weekend. I had told Kurt, oh there are a ton of sales this weekend. And maybe we should just go look at a new couch just to see. And didn’t say one more word about it! As we were driving to the grocery store that Saturday, Kurt looked at me and said maybe we should just stop into Potterybarn to look. And what do you know we found the perfect one, on sale, that same day! I was joking that now I know how to get to him. I have to plant the seed and then let him decide for himself instead of me pushing for it haha. Next time I need to remember this!

We decided to go with a lighter fabric this time around. While I love the boldness of the navy- you can see every single piece of hair from the animals! I knew what I was getting myself into when we ordered a navy couch, but I didn’t think it would be this bad. And we defiantly spent a lot of time with the sales associate going over pet friendly fabrics. Eventually we will need a new rug and pillows. And I can’t wait to do a little re-decorating and lighten up the space a bit.
I’ve loved living in this space and I know when the time comes I will be really sad to leave it. Hope you enjoy our cute little Chicago apartment!
