Ahhhh- the moment we have all been waiting for! Addie’s Dog DNA results are finally in!! If you didn’t catch my Insta stories over Christmas you are probably a little confused. So let me back up.
Over Cyber Monday, Kurt bought Addie a dog DNA kit because it was on major sale and we have always been very curious what Addie actually is. When we bought Addie from a local breeder in Michigan, we were told we were getting a 30 lbs Pomsky. In case you have no clue what a Pomsky is, they are half Siberian Husky and half Pomeranian. So you get the look of a husky, but they are small like a Pomeranian! When we were researching breeds, we kept going back to this breed because they were adorable, playful and a really great family dog. And 30 lbs seemed like the perfect size for city living- not too small and not too big.
I did my fair share of searching for a breeder, but seeing how a Pomsky was still a relatively new breed, it was really hard to come across a good one. Finally, it seemed like all the stars aligned and from word of mouth we found the contact information of a breeder who just had puppies! We knew exactly what we were looking for in terms of colors because they come in a ton of variations. And I knew the second the breeder sent me the picture of Addie that she was meant to be part of the #faberfive. She was exactly what we had been searching for!
^^This was the picture we first got of Addie! Wasn’t she adorable?!
^^One of my favorite pictures of Addie as a puppy! This was within the first week we brought her home. Doesn’t see look so happy?
^^She was such a handful as a puppy and we never got any sleep, so this picture is funny because she was the only one getting any sleep in our household!
^^The day we brought Addie home to Chicago!
So you kind of know how it plays out- Addie joined us in Chicago almost five years ago. As she continued to grow up, we always told people ‘Oh yeah, this is as big as she is going to get’. But what do you know- she just kept growing! And today we have a 54 lbs Pomsky or so we think?!?! In all fairness, her mom was an 80 lbs Husky and her dad was a Pomsky. So we knew going into this that she would be on the bigger end of being a Pomsky, but never did we imagine she would get this big.
Either way we still love and adore Addie! And we really couldn’t imagine life without her. So, are you ready to find out the breed?!?! She is……..
100% SIBERIAN HUSKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahahah I mean look at her- she looks exactly like a Husky! We kind of laugh about it because we spent an obscene amount of money to get a designer “Pomsky.” So we got majorly fooled. At least she’s a pure breed, right?! haha. Lesson learned on our part!
I thought this fun to share and I know a lot of people messaged me on Instagram that I had to share the results when we got them. Everyone is always curious about what Addie actually is haha. And if you are thinking about getting this kit, I highly recommend. Not only do you get to see what breed your pet is, but they send you health risks and diseases your pet might be at risk for in the future. It was nice to find out that Addie has zero health risks to worry about down the road!
And you get to see other family members that are related to your pet, which is kind of cool. Addie has cousins all over the world! It’s also kind of cool to see how much they all look alike and certain traits that they all have in common. You can even message their owners and chat with them. And if you live in the same area- maybe even have a play date!
Make sure to check my Insta stories later today because I’m going to post a funny video of Kurt finding out Addie’s breed. I accidentally found out before him. Embark sends you an email that your results are in and they put the results in the body of the email!! Kurt didn’t notice, but of course I did. So he waited to find out and his reaction is priceless. I guess now we will no longer be calling her a Pomksy- she’s a true HUSKY!!

Well, no matter what, she’s adorable, so at least there’s that. This reminds me of the story of how Manfred von Richtofen wanted a little lap dog to take up with him when he flew, and a friend obliged by giving him a teeny puppy. A teeny puppy who grew… and grew… and grew… until it became obvious that the tiny lap dog was in fact a Great Dane.
