Hello! I know its been a while. Well, a week haha. I took last week off from the blog because I went home to visit my parents. And wow, everything was so incredibly pretty up there! They live in northern Michigan and the trees were just phenomenal. I think it’s the prettiest they have been ever! The colors were so vibrant and just stunning. I absolutely love visiting this time of year because of pretty it is up there.
Anyway, I noticed a couple of days ago that the rug I own in our living room was back in stock, so I wanted to talk about rugs today! When we moved into this apartment about a year and a half ago (crazy how fast its gone already!), I had to buy a lot of rugs. First, because our space was a lot bigger and second because the entire apartment has hardwood floors. Most of our other apartments all had hardwood floors as well, but the bedrooms would have carpet.
I remember feeling so overwhelmed with shopping for rugs! There is an insane amount of rugs out there all at different prices, styles, colors, fabrics, etc. And I know sometimes it can be hard to shop for them online because the colors in person can be a little different. After I was about halfway done decorating our space, I read somewhere that you should really start with your rugs first because they can be so hard to find. And then decorate around it and buy coordinating furniture, accessories, etc. Whoever came up with this statement is just genius!!!! And I wish I would have found that beforehand haha. So if you are just starting out with decorating, start with your rugs first!
This post has been a long time coming and one I’ve wanted to share for a while, so I hope this can be helpful at least a tiny bit. I will take you thru all of our rugs and my review on them.

I knew for our living room, I wanted a deeper shade of color. Whether that be blue, navy, a deep tan, etc. We have a lot of pets and the living room is well the living room, so it gets used a lot. I love the look of light colored rugs, but I knew I would whole heartedly regret my decision if I went with a one. When I found this rug from Pottery Barn I was sooooo excited! I was having a really hard time finding a rug for our living room mainly because of our leather chair. It’s a really pretty blue leather, but don’t let that fool out. It is not a true navy, so I was having a hard time matching the blues.
I’ve been so happy with this rug. I’ve had for a year now and I’ve had no issues with it. The animals have puked all over it and Addie even had a really bad poop accident once (right after I got the rug too, ughhh, animals!). And all of the stains have come right out with a bit of elbow grease and some Folex.
I also don’t have a rug pad under it right now (I’ve been meaning to get one), but it really doesn’t need it. I’ve never had issues with it getting wrinkled or moving with no pad. It’s starting to get a bit dirty, so this spring I’m going to have to figure out how we can deep clean it. I would take it outside and hose it down, but we live in the city…..with no hose haha. So I will probably hire someone to come clean it. Anyway, I give this a 10 out of 10!

This rug, I have a love/hate relationship with. Love the way it looks, hate everything else about it. Just being honest here. First off, I ordered the Driftwood color (grey) and I’m pretty sure they sent me the Natural color instead. Initially, I was going to send it back. But I actually welcome the mistake and I think this color turned out great. But that’s where it stops. The rugs sheds so badly. If you lift the rug up at any given moment, you will see how badly it sheds. We try and clean it up but theres just no point because it sheds so badly.
And I’m not really happy with the fringe on the ends. It looks so much cleaner in the picture on the site and I thought after a while of it being unrolled that it would straighten out more. But it hasn’t.
I’ve actually been thinking about removing the rug completely and either selling it or just throwing it away haha. I’ve noticed a trend lately where a lot of people are not having rugs under their dining room table. And I will admit its kind of a pain to move your seat around because the chair doesn’t slide easily. You have to sort of pick it up and move. I’m sure Kurt would love this decision haha because he is the one who does the vacuuming, so it would be one less thing to do haha. I haven’t quite decided yet though because I do love the look of it and it helps to warm up the space.
Kitchen Rug
…
This is where I try to find the cheapest, but cutest looking rugs! Enter Amazon! This rug has been great. Its held up so well, looks cute and you can’t beat the price. This is a high traffic area so spending a ton of money on a rug is just not practical. I would love to own this rug and this was my inspiration, but I don’t love the price haha. Addie is always eats her treats on this rug and its just always dirty haha. I wash it about once a week.
I also added these rug grips to each side to hold it down. And they have been so convenient. You can throw it in the wash with the sticky part still attached and it still works after it comes out. Its starting to lose the stickiness so I probably need to replace them, but I’ve been pretty impressed with them.

Another area where I don’t like to spend a ton of money on rugs. This Target one has been great. I love the way it looks and also it has held up really well.

I also wanted to include this Pottery Barn rug I have by my back door because I am obsessed with it. It says it is an outdoor rug, but it is so soft that I would have never guessed that. I love the colors of it, although the color I got is called Chambray, but in person it is more grey. It’s still beautiful and I highly recommend this rug. I wish I had somewhere else to put a bigger version of this because I’m obsessed!

And last but not least, our bedroom rug. This is one of my favorite rugs mainly because it is so easy to clean! It is super soft and cozy and is perfect for the bedroom. I actually tried to switch out the rug to this one that I also have, but Kurt refused. He doesn’t say much about home decor, but when he does have an opinion about something, I tend to listen. This current rug is so soft that he didn’t want to lose the comfy feeling every morning when he got out of bed barefoot. I had never really thought of it that way, I was going for the design standpoint of it haha! But he has a point.
I also added this extra thick rug pad under it. I don’t think it really needs one, but we are right off of a busy street so I added it to hopefully suck up some of the noise at night. It also makes the rug extra cozy and plush feeling.
