You guys!!!! Not trying to brag here, but I think I’ve found my niche! And that is making the absolute best chocolate chip cookies. I can’t take credit for the recipe, here is the one the I used and I will also add it to the end of the post too. But I have some great tips on how to make them even better.
I thought I would add this post this week as we head into Thanksgiving. I know we all do a lot of baking and eating this time of year haha. And I know it might be a little different this year with smaller gatherings, less activities and likely no Black Friday Shopping ๐ so why not spend a little extra time in the kitchen and cook up something delicious!
I made these a few weeks ago and just recently made Kurt and I a batch. We had a really nice outdoor gathering with our friends and we grilled dinner one night a few weeks ago. And I brought these cookies. It seems crazy to even say that now but the weather was so nice that night so I’m glad we all got to spend some time together. And it will likely be the last time we all see each other for awhile, sadly. It doesn’t look like things are going to get any better any time soon.
Everyone was raving about my cookies that night. And my girlfriends were texting me the following days saying how they couldn’t stop eating them so that’s when I think I realized, ok these must be good! Kurt was so mad at me because when we were leaving my friends house, I didn’t take any back home because I told him I saved some for us. Well, it turns out I didn’t save any-whoops! So I decided to make him another batch and they turned out just as good.
I was actually thinking this would be a really great gift idea too to give to my friends since I already know they love them! I was going to bake more cookies and wrap them up in cute cookie tins like this one or this one. Or they would make a cute gift idea for your neighbors. You could drop them off at their doorstop for them to enjoy!
It’s funny that I just turned to good old Google and this was the first recipe that popped up. And I went with it because it looked super easy and didn’t have a million ingredients. Surprisingly, I had all of the ingredients on hand. I just had to buy some chocolate chips. The original recipe calls for walnuts, but I despise nuts in my cookies, so I skipped that part.
My Tips on How to Make the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies
- I followed the recipe to a tee which I thought was really easy and straight forward.
- The recipe calls for adding the cookies to an ungreased pan and make sure you follow that! It makes a big difference.
- I like to make my cookies a little bigger, so I take a big scoop and add it to the ungreased pan. It makes me feel better about only eating one haha. Even though, I guess you are eating a bigger cookie, but whatever.
- Do not over cook your cookies! In fact, when pull them out of the oven, they will look like they aren’t cooked enough. But pull them out anyway- trust me! You want them to be a little gooey!
- You will know they are done when you start to see the edges getting a little brown. Since I make mine a little bigger, they might cook a little longer. Mine usually take around 12-14 minutes. But every oven is different! So when it starts to get close- keep checking them.
- Once you pull them out of the oven, let them cool on the baking sheet for about a minute.
- Once they are a little cool, pull them off the pan and add them to a cooling rack. This one of those random things that I registered for that I actually use way more than I thought I would haha. I just wish I would have gotten two. If you don’t have a cooling rack, tin foil works just as good. It’s important to let them cool on this rack or tin foil because if you leave them on the pan, they will still cook because the pan is hot.
- After they have cooled, eat and enjoy the absolute best chocolate chip cookies! I also like to display mine on a pretty platter like this one or this one.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe
This recipe is not my recipe and was originally found here.
Ingredients
1 cup butter, softened (make sure it is actually soft!). This makes it so much easier to stir. If you don’t have time to let it sit out, pop it in the microwave for about 15 seconds.
1 cup white sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons hot water
1/2 teaspoon salt (I eyeball my salt because I have this grinder. So I just add a few turns of it until I feel satisfied)
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips
Step 1
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
Step 2
Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth (I recommend this hand mixer or this stand mixer. Next time I make these I will pull out my stand mixer because it’s so much easier to use!). Beat in one egg at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract. Dissolve the baking soda in hot water and add to the batter. Add in the salt. Stir in flour and chocolate chips. Add large spoonful’s onto an ungreased pan.
Step 3
Bake for about 10 minutes or until the edges start to become light brown (this is key!).
Step 4
Let cool, serve and enjoy!
Let me know if you end up making these chocolate chip cookies! I know it seems like everyone has a good recipe but I promise you these are phenomenal!
