I don’t love the idea of new years resolutions. I really think we should be reevaluating ourselves and making changes at any time of the year. But a few years ago people started to share their word of the year. And I loved that idea!
A simple, yet precise word that you want to focus on. And it’s something that can relate to all parts of your life. I don’t think I even shared my word last year because I was a little overwhelmed with life haha. We had a baby, a new house and it was an exhausting year. I constantly felt like I was in fight or flight mode- so I gave myself a break in 2022!
My word of the year for 2023 is- Focus! And I think it’s a good one. It honestly just came to me the other day. And I was like this is perfect! I want to focus on so many things and areas of my life.
Focus on my Health
I generally think I am a pretty healthy person, but there is always room for improvement. The one thing I want to start doing is drinking water with lemon the first thing when I wake up and on an empty stomach. I have always heard how great this is for you and I’m ready to reap the benefits. I have already started doing this the last few days. And to be honest, I don’t’ really like it. I’ve been doing luke warm water and its just kind of gross. I think you are supposed to do warm or hot water, but I don’t know if I can stomach it. So I might bend the rules a little and do this with cold water. It just works better for me! Anyways, I am excited to see how this helps with so many areas of my health.
At the end of 2022, I really got into cooking a lot more and meal planning. And I have very much enjoyed it. A lot more than I thought I would. And that is one thing I want to continue in 2023. Delicious and healthy meals for my family!
I have been doing really well with working out. And its one of the only times in my life I have been consistent. Even when we got sick the whole month of December, I carved out a little time here and there to squeeze in a workout. I have found I really need it for my mental and physical health. I am just a better person when I get my exercise! Read about my journey here.
Focus on my Family
The big one here is putting my phone down and giving Sloane my undivided attention when she is home. She is really starting to notice a lot more and is very interested in our phones. She locks me out of mine all the time haha. And I want to show her there is more to the world than being attached to your phone. We are also much more comfortable being out and about with her now that she is older and we aren’t tied down to multiple naps a day. I’m excited to start taking her to the park more and having play dates! And I really want to spend more one on one time with Kurt. A lot of times, it is just easier to not have a date night, but we need it. And deserve it!
Focus on my Friends
Pre-pandemic and really pre-IVF, I was pretty social. Always had events and meet ups with girlfriends. IVF really put a damper on my mood a lot of times and I just didn’t always love being around people, to be honest. And then the pandemic came, I was pregnant, we had a newborn, etc. etc. Life got a little hectic at home there for a bit! Well, I want to start spending more times with my girlfriends. Dinners, wine nights, coffee dates, phone calls. I’m really going to make an effort to reach out more and make more plans.
Focus on our Home
We’ve been in our home for a year and a half now and there is still so much to do in terms of decorating. I know it will likely never feel ‘done’. But this year I’m going to do my best to get it a little more polished than it is currently. The rooms feel half finished, not styled and it is driving me nuts! A lot of the issue is because of Sloane being able to grab things now. But I just can’t live in an empty box! I need décor and color and pillows and artwork. All of which I plan focusing on this year. I’m not sure how I will do it, if I will take one room, complete it and move on. Or if I will just find pieces here and there for spots. Either way, I’m really excited to make this place feel less empty haha.
Last year, I did a post on our home renovations wish list and I plan on doing that same post again for 2023. So I will go into this a little more detail in that post coming next week!
Hope you have had a great start to the new year so far!
