I’ve been doing so much shopping for myself lately! I did a HUGE closet clean out a few weeks ago and got rid of so many clothes. Growing up my dad always told me you have no space for new clothes. So I would clean out my closet and then I magically had room haha. He had a point though! Out with the old and in with the new!
I had so many clothes I had been hanging onto for far too long. I think my big realization was that I’m probably never going to have to get dressed up like I used to for work. My lifestyle has changed dramatically since becoming a mom and now working from home. There was a lot of good stuff, but I never reached for it. And it just took up too much space! So I kept reaching for the same stuff over and over- mostly leggings and sweatshirts.
I have doing a little shopping for my trip to Mexico in a few weeks and then I just continued haha. I haven’t done a big refresh in a really long time and I have been in need of some updated closet staples! And just new stuff in general- that’s not leggings or sweatshirts. I think the big realization for me was last week Kurt and I had a last minute chance to go on a date night and I had nothing to wear. Normally I might have time to drop into a store or order something quickly but there was no time for that. We don’t have a lot of shopping options near me and I didn’t feel like treeking it all the way to mall (which probably wouldn’t have anything anyways!).
We had a super fun night and it was nice to spend time together. But I didn’t feel my best because I didn’t love my outfit. I know it’s kind of silly, but I love getting dressed up and looking cute. It makes me feel better about myself! There was a point a few years ago when I could easily come up with outfits for any outing and love them. But that’s because I had curated a closet that I loved and all the pieces worked together. Between Covid, pregnancy and being a new mom- I’ve put myself and my closet on the backburner.
I was talking to Kurt about it over the weekend and I said something about how I didn’t love my outfit etc. etc. but that I was feeling guilty about spending the money. Well, he kind of gave me the go ahead to do something for myself! And he’s right! I deserve to feel good about myself. And for that I’ve been doing a little shopping haha. But it’s also the perfect time because there are lots of good President’s Day sales too.
I’m usually the type to wait to buy something until I have an event I can wear it to. It doesn’t have to be fancy either. But what I noticed was last year everything I loved was sold out in my size. So then I was finding stuff I didn’t love as much. And I’m at the point in my life where I know I have to love it in order to add it to my closet. So I just wasn’t buying stuff. It sounds like a first world problem and it is. But I love fashion and getting dressed, so this feels like a huge step to do something for myself!
What I’ve Bought for Spring
This is stuff I’ve ordered and it hasn’t all come yet, so I’m not even sure if I will end up liking it or keeping it all. I’m a big returner! If I don’t love it, I send it back. Retailers have made online returns a lot simpler these days. Most sites refund you the second you drop it off- so it’s really easy.
The biggest area of improvement I needed in my closet were jeans! I love to wear jeans! But I don’t love the styles I have right now. Plus there have been so many new trends in jeans- I kind of can’t keep up. I personally love a cropped flare jean- I think these look the best on me. But I also kind of want to order this baggy pair– they remind me of the ones I loved when I was in middle school! And a must for me this Spring was an off white or neutral jean so I found this pair for only $50 (I also got the dark wash too).
I love white jeans- they are an absolute must in my closet! So I did splurge on this pair. I have a feeling I’m going to love them because I adore this brand and they fit really well.
I also added in some classic pieces like this sweater and this sweater (only $50!). And I love to wear color especially in the Spring so I added this fun blouse (I thought it would be cute to dress up) and this dress. This dress is adorable! I just might need to have it hemmed a bit- I think it’s a little too long.
I’m not a big accessories person, but I did buy myself this new bag. It’s on the smaller side so it’s cute for my trip or date night. I’ve been thinking about buying myself this tote I’ve been lusting over. But I will probably just end up wearing my Lululemon belt bag haha (I have a navy one I love!).
I’m really trying to push myself not to wear leggings to much, but I had to buy this pair in the tan. I thought they were a cute color for Spring and they are my favorites for only $30. I actually prefer them over the expensive ones. And I thought this was a more polished sweatshirt than anything else I own.
As far as shoes, I own and wear these sneakers all the time. And I bought this pair of flats in the Fall that I knew I would wear well into Spring (they are incredibly comfortable). I did buy this sneaker because I have seen them everywhere. Not really sure how I feel about them, but I couldn’t pass up this colorway. We will see how I like them when I get them!
President’s Day Sales
Ok and since it is President’s Day on Monday I thought I would share a few sales that I’m shopping. I will keep this short and sweet as I know a long list gets overwhelming!
J.Crew– Always my go to when shopping! 30% off with code SHOPNOW. I just bought this sweater and this top. I almost bought this sweater (love the light blue!) and this striped top. This sweater isn’t on sale but I adore the light yellow color- so pretty!
J.Crew Factory– 50% off the entire site. I’ve had my eye on this top– cute with jeans and also leggings. And I love the spring colors it comes in. Love these wide legs jeans for only $50. And I can never pass up a cute pair of pjs.
Gap– I have been really liking a lot of their stuff lately. I haven’t bought anything in awhile, but I used to shop here a lot! This is a really cute crochet dress for a warm weather vacation. Love this eyelet top and this denim top.
Serena & Lily– Up to 25% off dining which means my dining room chairs are on sale. I’m dying for this new hydrangea blue! Read my full review on these chairs here.
Did you like this kind of post?! I had fun putting it together. And I hope this inspired you to do a little shopping for yourself! I will share more of what I kept and some outfit ideas in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
