At the end of June, we spent a long weekend getaway in Savannah, GA and I am so excited to share our trip! Savannah has been on our list to travel to for a while now and I’m so excited we got a chance to finally go!
The main reason we went there was because a long time truck driver that Kurt has worked with for almost his entire career now was getting married. He is also a follower of my blog! So when we got the invite to the wedding, we happily accepted knowing we finally had that excuse to travel to a city we have always wanted to go to. And finally meet. Yes, that’s right. Kurt talks to this guy almost every single day on the phone for over eight years now and they have never met.
Kurt and I both really enjoy the south. We have been to Charleston twice now, although I’ve never featured it on the blog! It is one of my absolute favorite cities and truly can’t wait to go back again soon. And everyone always told us we need to check out Savannah at some point because they are so similar. After traveling to Savannah, I really feel in love. Everyone we met or came into contact with was just so nice! It must be the southern way. And we just love all of the history and architecture you get down in the south.
A Weekend Getaway in Savannah, GA
Where We Stayed
Truthfully, one of the main reasons I loved Savannah so much was because of the hotel. When we booked our trip in May, the temperatures even then were in the 90s so we knew it was only going to get hotter by the time we arrived end of June. Our top priority in a hotel was it had to have a pool. So that narrowed down the search a bit. I would have loved to stay in a bed and breakfast and gotten the full experience, but we couldn’t find one that had a pool.
In the end we decided to book Perry Lane Hotel and it exceeded every expectation I had. The hotel is less than a year old, so everything is brand new. And it was gorgeous. They did an amazing job at decorating the hotel to be that old traditional style while still keeping it new, hip and fresh. And it had one of the best pools ever! It was located on the rooftop with this cute little bar on the other side. We spent our afternoons here sipping frose and trying to beat the heat! And not only was it gorgeous, but everyone on the staff was just so nice and attentive.

I really feel like we didn’t do as much touristy stuff as we usually do when we travel because it was just so hot. The heat really gets to you! So we moved slow and always ended our afternoons by the pool. Our second day in the city we started the day by walking around Forsyth Park. It is this gorgeous park with all of these huge, beautiful trees. We walked around there for a bit and then got lost in the surrounding neighborhoods. This is one of our favorite things to do when we travel. We love exploring and looking at all of the homes and just sort of getting lost and seeing where the day takes you.

The homes in Savanah are really just gorgeous. The one thing I did notice about them was they really reminded me a lot of the homes here in Chicago. Most of them had huge stoops and stairs to get up to the front door. And the “main” level of living was actually on the second floor instead of on the ground, which is how a lot of homes are in Chicago.
All of the neighborhoods in Savannah are unreal. And they all have these squares in the middle on every other block. The squares consist of beautiful, old trees and monuments and park benches. And there were so many of them! I swear it was like there was one every other corner we turned.
Later in the day, we decided we wanted to see the city from a different viewpoint and signed up to do a hop on, hop off trolley ride. This is a great way to see the city and learn about some of the history. We were pretty exhausted at this point so we rode the trolley the whole time, but the concept is great. You can get off at any of the stops, explore a little and hop back on when you are ready to explore another part of the city.

The one thing we wanted to do, but didn’t was the ghost tour. Truthfully, we just waited too long to book it and everything was already sold out. So this will be on our list next time we visit! Savannah is suppose to be one of the most haunted cities so this could have been very fun to experience. But we will be back one day!
Where We Ate

Our first night I booked dinner at The Old Pink House, mainly because it was pink hahaha. But it got wonderful reviews and everyone said it’s a must. It was so cool in there. It was sectioned off a like an old house and it was still decorated like it would have been back in the 1800s. And the food was so good! My favorite was the fried chicken and mac and cheese!

Our second night we had dinner on the patio at Chart House Restaurant and this was my favorite night. It is steamy during the day, but it cools off nicely at night. We sat outside and watched all of the people on River Street walk by and all of the boats going thru the river. The food was just as good as the ambiance too! I highly recommend this spot!
One day for lunch we ate at Zunzi’s which was voted the best sandwich in GA and let me tell you it was GOOD! It’s this tiny little hole in the wall with outdoor seating. So very authentic. We got the chicken sandwich to split because they are huge and it was so delicious.
I know I’m going a bit backwards in terms of food, but every morning for breakfast we went to a small place called Rise. They serve biscuits and donuts- the best combo ever! I don’t know what they do in the south to get the biscuits so good, but they are just amazing! They literally melt in your mouth. If I ever moved to the south I think I would be enormous because I would survive solely on biscuits!
My dress and earrings are old, but here is a similar dress and similar earrings

Our last night we attending a wedding which was so fun. We knew no one there expect for the bride and groom. But everyone was so welcoming and made us feel right at home! This was the only picture we took from that night, I think because we were having to so much fun! I can’t wait to go back again soon Savannah!
