Today is Addie’s 5th birthday and since we are still all locked up (safe) at home, we decided to celebrate BIG this year and we threw her her very own birthday party! I ordered a few decorations and made her this dog cupcake recipe to celebrate (more on that below).
When I say that Addie is the best dog ever- I truly mean it! She has changed us in so many ways and I love that animal so much. She is everything we need and more. It’s funny how she knows when to snuggle up to you and when to drive you a little crazy haha. Huskies are not always the easiest breeds to raise. We had a hell of a time when she was a little puppy. And even today she makes it known that she’s the alpha female in this household.
When we see new couples with puppies on the street or friends add a new member to the family, I think its natural to ask how the puppy phase is going. Kurt and I were reminiscing about our experience a few weeks ago….and let’s just say ours was very different that most haha. I remember her first day at home in her crate, Kurt came home at lunch to let her out and she had pooped all over her crate and it went EVERYWHERE. I also blame myself for this partially because I think we fed her too much- lesson learned!
We also use to sleep in shifts when she was a puppy because she had an insane amount of energy that never seemed to go away. I would literally go to bed around 8pm every night because she was up every morning at 4:30am. Let me tell you- those were some long days! And Kurt would stay up with her until around 11pm every night and then sleep in the next day. But she always had so much energy and we could just never catch up haha.
Still to this day, she is a difficult doggie. As many of you know she completely destroyed our very nice leather chair about a year ago. And has since proceeded to take a few chews out of my new leather chair. I think it’s safe to say, I should just avoid leather furniture at all costs. She’s defiantly too smart for her own good and keeps us on our toes at all times!
We’ve also been laughing lately because Addie’s life during quarantine has been completely un-phased. Her daycare closed down for the first week and then quickly opened back up. So she heads there three times a week to play all day with her friends. I don’t know what we would have done without daycare. It’s the only way for her burn off all of her energy and she loves being around other dogs. Daycare has saved us this past year and we are so thankful they have remained open during all of this craziness! And about a month ago she was able to get a bath because she is shedding like crazy. It’s funny how she can get her hair done, but mom and dad are completely out of luck haha!
For her birthday this year, I knew I wanted to make it special because what else do we have to celebrate right now, right?! I made her this dog cupcake recipe and she is obsessed! The recipe is actually for a cake, but I thought cupcakes would be easier. She really takes her time when she eats these. I think because she wants to savor them! The recipe was super easy and surprisingly I had everything already on hand (except the shredded carrots). Every time Kurt gives her one of these treats, he always comments on how good they smell.
I love you, Addison Mittens Faber! You have brought us so much joy, especially during these difficult times. I’ve loved spending extra time with you during these last few weeks and I will truly miss our mid-day walks when I eventually go back to work. Happiest of birthdays!
Let me know if your pup enjoys this dog cupcake recipe!
