Rugs are one of the hardest home decor purchases. There are so many different sizes, colors, prices, patterns, etc. Where do you even start? It can be hard and a very daunting process. But I am here today to share all the rugs in our home. I basically had to start over last year when we moved. Before we even moved in our home, we had the hardwood floors redone. And they look amazing! I am so happy we decided to do this before we moved in because it would have been a huge pain to do it after we lived in the home.
Anyway, when we initially moved, since we had just had the floors redone, the carpenter told us to wait 30 days before we laid down any rugs. And we had just spent a ton of money on these beautiful floors- so we listened! Well, Kurt put all of our rugs in the basement and as you might remember, we had a flood that ruined a lot of stuff in our basement the week after we moved in. So I had to start over, which I wasn’t that mad about actually!
My one tip is to start with your rug before you start decorating your room. This way you can pull colors and patterns from your rug and it will all flow. And always measure and measure again before you buy. The bigger, the better in most cases. You want your rug to fill out most of your space so don’t be afraid to lay down painter’s tape to measure it out….and live with it for a bit. And lastly, always watch shipping prices on rugs, especially big ones. Sometimes it is worth the extra shipping charge if you love a rug, but Wayfair is a great place to shop for rugs that doesn’t charge shipping. Some retailers charge anywhere from $200-$300+ to ship a big rug!
Oh and one more tip. Buy a small 2’x3′ rug first to see the pattern and color. And then if you do like it, you can easily return this smaller sized rug and order the larger size that you need. Big rugs are a huge pain to return…and it can be expensive! So this will save you time and money.
All the Rugs in Our Home
Living Room
…
I absolutely love this rug (smaller size here)!! Instagram kept serving me an ad for this rug and every time I saw it, I fell more in love with it. I wanted my living room to be neutral in color, but have a touch of blue. And this is the most perfect rug for that. I was a little hesitant at first to go with a light colored rug, but I have had no issues! The material has been very durable even when accidents do happen, it comes clean very easily with a little Folex and a white cloth.
Entryway
…
Another rug that I just love!! The colors are so pretty in real life. I also really like that this is a pretty traditional rug, but the colors make it look more updated. This rug is pretty pricey which is why I decided to not put it in any other room because I would have needed a bigger size. It looks pretty perfect in my entryway. I do put an old rug over it in the wintertime or when it is really muddy. I don’t want anyone ruining this gorgeous rug!
Dining Room
…
My living room and dining room are open to each other so I needed something to match my rug in our living room. I wanted to pick up the blue and I found this one and fell in love with it. My dining room furniture is very white- I can’t believe I am saying this, but it’s almost too white for me. So I knew I needed to add some color in the rug and also the accessories. This rug is also perfect for a dining room because it is low profile so our chairs easily slide back and forth on it.
Den
…
This blue and white striped rug has really grown on me! Once we completed our back room (we are calling it our den), the rug looks so much better. See our transformation of this room in this blog post here. I sort of bough this one quickly over Christmas. We were hosting Christmas and my niece and nephew were going to be in town. And I wanted something so my floors wouldn’t get ruined. I wasn’t that big of a fan at first, but I actually really love it with the wallpaper! As you might have noticed, our living room, dining room and den are all sort of open and flow together. So it was important for me to keep the color palette the same.
Upstairs Hallway
…
This is another favorite rug of mine! I have been in love with it for so long and knew I wanted it in my hallway. It is probably just a little too long. But Serena & Lily only offer one size in the runner. But I had to have it so am making it work! This rug has been so incredibly durable. And although it is light in color, it cleans up so nicely. This is a high traffic area in our home and I have had no issues with keeping it clean. Just a little Folex and we are good to go! Eventually, I would love to replace my rug in my den with this one. I just love it so much! That will be a ways down the road though, if ever.
Office
…
Our office is an awkward shape, so I actually have two rugs in this room (both are the same pattern) and it totally works! I wanted something neutral, but bright because it is a small space and the walls are painted a dark grey. Office is just about done so I should be able to photograph it soon!
Master Bedroom
…
You only get a glance of our bedroom because we still have yet to buy a bed after our canopy bed wouldn’t fit up our stairs haha. This rug is very similar to the one in our office. Our walls are a light blue and we have white furniture so this really grounds it all. But still keeps things light and bright. This rug is really soft on your feet. I am a little nervous at how long it might last though. There are spots were it is already starting to unravel, likely from Addie jumping on and off the bed. But I think that is just part of the character of the rug. It’s beautiful regardless.
Nursery
…
And last but not least- Sloane’s rug! I really liked that this rug is something that doesn’t look too ‘young’ and she can grow with it. See her full room here.
One more thing to note- I use these rug pads under a lot of my rugs and they work really nice. They make your rug feel thicker and more plush than it might be. I also use these sticky things on the corners of high traffic areas like my runner in my upstairs hallway. They help to keep the rug in place.
Hope you found some rugs to for your home…because we all know how difficult they can be to find!
