Father’s Day is a little less than two weeks away, so today we are going to talk about gift ideas for dad. Because are they not the most difficult people to shop for??!? I can never think of anything and even when I ask Kurt he has NO clue! What is it with men? I could rattle a list off in seconds of everything I’ve had my eye on lately haha. Anyway, I really kept Kurt in mind when picking out these gifts. My dad is literally the hardest man to shop for! He is so picky when it comes to his clothes. And he enjoys cars, but sorry dad, I can’t afford to buy you a Bentley!
Gift Ideas for Dad
- Happy Socks 4 Pack– Kurt loves fun socks and I found these and thought they would be perfect for him. They come in a pack of four and at $50 they are a great deal. I also adore the colors. They are perfect for this time of year as we head into the 4th of July holiday!
- Vineyard Vines Trucker Hat– This is Kurt’s favorite brand and lately he has been really into hats. So it is the perfect combo!
- Golf Course Book– I have really been into coffee table books lately. They add personality to your home and they are so fun to collect. During the summer months you can always find Kurt golfing on the weekends. I thought he would really enjoy this book!
- Hydro Flask Water Bottle– I have a smaller version of this water bottle and I’m obsessed! It keeps your water nice and cold. I’ve had mine for over a year now and it still looks brand new. This one is 64 ounces so it’s perfect for long days at the beach or the golf course.
- Vineyard Vines Polo– Kurt wears one of these polos every single day! I think he owns about every color now. They wash up really nice and even after wearing them daily for over a year now, they still look brand new.
- Planters (large, medium)- A few weeks ago we decided to plant some flowers on our balcony and it has made the world of difference! You catch a glimpse of the balcony from our kitchen and I love seeing our pretty flowers flourishing. These are the pots we used and I like how simple they are. They also come in this really pretty grey color.
- Barware Collection– A couple of years ago Kurt and his guy friends traveled to Louisville, KY and ever since then he has become a huge whisky drinker. I surprised him with a decanter and glasses similar to these and he loved them!
- Dog Belt– Kurt loves anything with puppy dogs on it!
- Smoke-less Grill– We have had this grill for a couple of years now and use it all the time. The smokeless feature makes it perfect for apartment living. This grill cooks up a mean cheeseburger too! I know this item is pricy, but William’s Sonoma always has 20% off coupons and you can use it on this item!
Now that you have some ideas on what to gift your dad or husband on Father’s Day, I want to pay tribute to my Dad. He is a very special man who is very important in my life. And has taught me a lot over the years! Here are some important life lessons he has taught me.
Life Lessons from my Dad
- Don’t take crap from anyone. He has taught me to stand up for myself and stand up for what I believe in, no matter what the consequences are. This was really put the test a few months ago at work. I was having a situation where a male counterpart was really talking down to me and being combative for no reason. I got to a breaking point where I couldn’t take it anymore. No one deserves to be talked to the way I was, so I decided to say something. I’m so glad I did because our relationship has improved tenfold. I told my dad the story after it happened and I think he had one of those proud Dad moments. Everything he had taught me over the years had just come to fruition.
- Always iron your blouse and pants. I remember growing up every Sunday my dad would get out the ironing board and watch TV as he pressed his pants and shirts for the week. As I got older, I would add to his pile because I soon realized you look so much more presentable when you don’t have wrinkled pants. These days I take my laundry to the dry cleaners, but I will never walk out of the house a wrinkled mess!
- Never drink beer. When I was headed off to college, my dad gave me some fatherly advice that I should stick to wine and liquor as opposed to beer. He knew what college would entail and drinking would be a big part of it. He always said women look more classy when drinking a glass of wine. Nothing against anyone who enjoys a cold beer- these were just his opinions. Funny thing is today, I’m still not much of a beer drinker!
- Women rule the world. I watched this first hand as he gave my mom all of the decision making power in our family (at least that is how I saw it). She handled the finances and had all the real power. It’s sort of coincidental because that is exactly how Kurt and I operate too! And not only that he always told me I could do anything I wanted in life, regardless of my gender, just as long as I put in the effort!
- Dress classically and you will always be in style. My dad is the most preppy, basic dresser you might ever meet. He likes what he likes and doesn’t stray far from it all. But as I get older, I realize that those classic pieces in your wardrobe are the items that will never go out of style. And you can look back years later and still want to wear that same outfit.
- The better you dress, the better you feel. Can you tell my dad is really into fashion? He is the one who helped curate my love for it. This is one of his favorite sayings and I completely agree with it! When you wake up every morning, do your hair, put on makeup and wear a nice (pressed) outfit- you exude a certain confidence. Think about those days you wear sweats all day and don’t do your hair. You are much more inclined to be lazy all day.
- And lastly, the best things in life are free. Another one of his sayings he has always lived by. I grew up very blessed and as an only child, so I was pretty spoiled. Although my parents did spoil me a lot, it was always instilled in me that material items mean nothing if you don’t have your family and friends. Relationships are free, but they are the best part of life.
It’s funny how your upbringing and your family really shapes the person you are today. After looking back at these lessons from my Dad, I’ve realized that he played a huge part in the person I am today. I love you Dad and Happy Father’s Day!
