This year I decided that I would do a no shopping January! A lot of people like to reset in January and its a great time to do that. They do Whole30, give up alcohol or even vow to hit up the gym. Well considering my vice is online shopping, I decided this January to take a break for the entire month!
I actually thought about doing this last year at the same time, but never committed to it. So this year, I told Kurt my idea and of course he loved it! And he’s actually even helping me stay committed to it. He has joined in on the fun too. But instead of giving up online shopping he gave up on his vice, chocolate. Before we started this, I didn’t realize how much he was actually eating. The man would get up every morning and eat a piece of dark chocolate caramel before he left for work. And then all throughout the day, he would snack on more. He needed a change because by the end of the day he could feel the crash….hard!
So, why did I decide to do this? I always spend so much during the holidays and this year was no different, except I think it was my most excessive year yet. It all started when we went to Charleston on a trip and then came my birthday where one of my best friends came to visit Chicago and we had a super fun weekend. Then my mom and I went to NYC for a quick trip. And then you add on Christmas shopping, shopping for myself, gifts etc. It was time to slow down!
On top of all the regular Christmas shopping I do, I also like to take advantage of all the good sales that happen during the holidays and I shop for myself. And a lot of the items I bought over the holidays, I really haven’t had a chance to wear them as much as I should because I did just too much shopping! I went to clean out my closet a few weeks ago because I literally had no more room for any of my clothes. I have more sweaters than I know what to do with or have room for. So, I knew this was the perfect challenge for myself.
I did give myself a few rules though. I couldn’t buy anything new- meaning I couldn’t order a new sweater from Nordstrom or J.Crew or a new beauty product to try. But if it was something that I already use and was out of it, I could purchase it online. So if I ran out of moisturizer, I could buy it online to replace it. And I’ve bought a couple of items here and there from Amazon. It’s more about not hitting checkout too quickly, than making my life more difficult. You get used to ordering everything off Amazon and I wasn’t about to make my already hectic life, more hectic when I really needed an item.
So today’s outfit and all of the outfits you will see this month are items I already have in my closet. You might remember this outfit from this post here back in the spring. I just updated it with some winter friendly boots. Which by the way these boots are amazing. They are so comfortable and super warm. And I love the pop of red in the laces. I’m so happy with this purchase.
Did you give up anything or change anything about your routine in January?

Good for you! I too order too much online but then about 75% of it goes back! Nordstrom and Macys must hate me! I have ordered this month but plan to stop now. I really do not need any more winter clothes especially since I live in Florida where it is almost always shorts and tee shirts, etc. yuck. I get soooo tired of shorts and tee shirts. Maybe that is why I go nuts when their is some cold weather down here in the winter. Have a good January and Happy New Year

That’s exactly what I do too with the returns! If I’m not crazy about something- it goes back. January is a good time to reset and take a little break from shopping. I had this idea last year and never fully committed. Have a happy new year!
