Today is International Yoga Day and I thought it would be fun to share my experience with yoga because I have quickly become obsessed with it! We first moved into our new building last November and with the health kick that usually starts in January, our building began offering FREE classes. That’s right! How lucky are we that we get free workout classes? Every Saturday morning a yoga class is offered. And I thought, why not try it? It’s free! I have tried yoga a few times over the years, but I never really liked it. I always thought it was just too slow and it wasn’t that intense workout that I like. But I decided to give it another shot and after that first class I was hooked!
To me doing yoga is about the spiritual connection and relaxation you get, more than it is about the physical aspect. I have noticed changes to my body over the last six months. My abs are stronger, my legs are leaner and my arms are more defined. But what keeps me going back every week is how I feel after. I feel so much more relaxed and uplifted. It’s crazy the sensation that a workout can bring and it’s a feeling I don’t get from any other workout. Now I get why people are obsessed with yoga! After class, I always feel re-charged. You don’t even necessarily know you are working out either. There are always a few poses you can really feel and that you can’t wait to get out of. But half of the time I don’t even realize I am working out. I am just concentrating on my breath and making sure I don’t fall over haha.
I have become so hooked on yoga, that I have started doing it during my lunch hour. My work offers yoga classes twice a week during the lunch hour and I always try to make it to at least one class a week. It’s a great perk! A couple of weeks ago, I talked to my teacher about some easy moves I can do at home on a daily basis. I seriously crave yoga now and I never thought I would say that! When I feel stressed or overwhelmed, the best thing for me to do is a few yoga poses to decompose and relax.
Anyway, if you haven’t done yoga before or if you have done it and didn’t like it-give it another shot. I am so happy I decided to because this has completely changed my perspective on life and working out. It’s funny because growing up my dad was always very spiritual. He practiced mediation and was into all kinds of stuff along those lines. I always thought he was just weird haha, but looking back now-he had a point to his madness! You need to learn to decompose and relax, which is something I tend to struggle with at times. Practicing yoga has taught me to concentrate more on my breath and how you feel in that moment. It truly relaxes me. I am so lucky to have found this special workout!
This is one of my favorite outfits to do yoga in! If you haven’t tried Zella leggings from Nordstrom yet, I highly recommend them. They are the best! And I love the price point of them- under $55! They tend to sell out quickly, so if you see a pair in your size, I recommend ordering them right away. This pair I am wearing I actually got on sale, so they are sold out. But they are the high waisted pant which are my new fav! I love this light blue color and just need to order them already. They have been sitting in my Nordstrom shopping cart for some time now.
