Over the weekend, I was playing around on my computer and started designing our play room and I thought I would share! I’ve had these ideas in my head and I needed to get them down on paper so I could visualize it all. And I have to say, I am really happy with how this all came together! It’s where we store all of Sloane’s toys, but this is the room we spend the most time in. Even after Sloane goes to bed, Kurt and I watch TV in here now.
For this space, I wanted to keep things light and bright like I always love. I have to have blue in here because it is my favorite color and sort of ties the rest of my house together. Our house isn’t an open concept, but the rooms are all open together and flow together. So while, I’ve decorated them all differently, they all sort of have to flow together. Blue is my anchor color. I really want to add some touches of green into this space too because I think it looks really pretty with the blue. And adds another color to the mix. Our powder bath is right around the corner and I plan to paint it a pretty green (shade is still TBD), so I think it will all flow really nicely.
Some of these items we already have in there and I plan on keeping them. You might remember a year ago, we undertook a huge project of having the walls refinished in this space (read about it here). And we added this wallpaper. I love it so much. And have been very happy with how that turned out.
We bought our white sofa a few months ago (review here). I have this lamp in there, this table, this light and also this cabinet. I did switch out the hardware on the cabinet to this, but I couldn’t figure out how to photoshop it! My skills aren’t that good yet haha. So that will all stay and I made sure to incorporate those items into my design.
Right now we have this rug in there. And while it looks good, I’m not 100% in love with it. I bought it kind of fast because we needed something in there to protect the floors. And while it does look really nice with the wallpaper, it’s too blue and white for me. So I think I want to switch it to something more neutral like this one. The price is also really good on this one, especially if you need a big size! And not to mention the current rug we have in there is a little small. So I plan to order the next size up when I do purchase it.
I’ve been on the hunt for a toddler friendly coffee table for this space. Originally, I was thinking I would get the matching ottoman to our sofa, but I have been really hesitant with that. Our couch is pure white! It can be hard to maintain, but it is a slipcover and everything can be washed. I also add a blanket to the seat for added protection. With the ottoman, it can’t be taken off to wash. And I could just picture Sloane walking around it with food all over her hands getting it dirty. It just wasn’t practical!
I had a couple girlfriends over a few weeks ago and we were talking about this space. And I mentioned my dilemma. And she had a really great idea that I needed a light leather ottoman. I started searching on Google and found this one and I think it’s perfect for the space! Plus it’s really practical.
Our play room is pretty big, so we do have some storage items for Sloane’s toys and some bigger items for her. We keep toys in this cabinet, we have this Ikea storage, this table and chairs (with this mat) and she also has a play kitchen in there. We really need some additional seating and I just love these chairs! On the back wall, we have this huge window that looks out into our yard and I think two of these chairs with a table would look really nice in front of it. Of course, they are out of stock right now. But I did sign up for in stock notification. Fingers crossed they come back in stock soon.
I’m not sure if we have room for these stools. They would probably be one of the last things I bought. I like the idea of using these as extra seating when we have people over. I’m just not sure we have the room for them once we get everything else in there. I don’t want the space to feel too crowded since this is a play room. Sloane needs room to play!
As far as art, I love this print so much. I would buy it and have it framed at Framebridge. I’ve had a few pieces done by them in the past and they do such a good job. I had something framed at a local shop and they were soooo expensive! Framebridge is much more affordable.
I was looking at the walls the other night and I’m not sure if I would have room for this mirror, but I included it anyway just in case haha. We don’t have a lot of space to hang things in this space because the TV takes up one wall and we have a lot of windows and door openings. I still included it because I do really like it. So if it doesn’t work in this room, I might have to find another space for it in my home.
So there you go! These are my ideas for our play room and I’m really happy with them. Now I need to start ordering haha.
