Lately, all I can think about talk about is skincare! I am trying to perfect my skincare routine for combination skin. My skin is overly sensitive and I’m not even sure that is the correct word for it. But if I don’t hydrate enough, I get super dry, especially right now in the winter. And if I use products that are too moisturizing I break out. So then I use products to get rid of my blemishes, but that in turn dries out my skin. It is one vicious cycle!
What I’ve Bought
I talked in my last post about how I spoke to my eyebrow esthetician about my skin and she gave me some product recommendations. I bought this cleanser and moisturizer, but it was too much for my skin. It actually made me breakout really bad and I was super dry during the day. I needed a plan b.
And then one of my favorite bloggers wrote this whole long post about her skincare routine (read it here). I mean I studied this post, took notes, and planned out what I was going to buy. And I’ve gone back several times to the post to re-read it and see how she uses each product. Her routine is over the top, but it made me realize mine is too minimal. I do need extra moisture this time of year. My skin gets dry from walking outside in the wind. And I’m not exfoliating or even coming close to using the correct products for my age. As you get older your skin just changes….period.
I was completely overwhelmed at first as to where to start and so I emailed her. She advised me to step up my nighttime routine because that is when your skin repairs itself. So I ordered this cleanser and this serum (I found the travel size on Amazon!) and OMG I’m hooked. My skin feels supple and plump every morning when I wake up. And it feels so luxurious to remove your makeup with this oil. But let me tell you I was super nervous the first few nights of using these products. You are putting oil on your skin and then on top of it, the moisturizer is oily feeling as well. But- no breakouts, just super smooth, plump skin. And now I’m hooked. I want to order every product she has recommended.
She also recommended this cleanser and moisturizer to use in the mornings (I bought this travel set). I’ve tried them here and there, but I really want to hone in on my nighttime routine and figure out what I love and don’t like. It can be really hard on your skin to try everything new all at once. Then it is hard to figure what is causing you to be dry, breakout, etc. But after loving the nighttime products so much, I’m excited to start incorporating these product into my routine.
And then I decided I really wanted to try some of the Colleen Rothschild products she recommended in her post. I ordered this serum first to use at night. I don’t use any acids in my routine and that is one of her recommendations. Last week, I bought this travel kit off of Amazon to try the masks she recommends for hydration and exfoliation. Really excited to start incorporating more of these into my routine.
I plan on doing a more in depth post once I find all of the products I plan to continue with. But for now, you can find me ordering every travel size I can find!
What I’m Shopping For
Still shopping for our trip! I ordered this skirt over the weekend. I have a white one piece from last year, that has these really cute sleeves, so I thought this would be cute as a coverup. And it will be super cute to wear out to a casual dinner over the summer.
I’m in love with this tote! I use my Louis Vuitton one all the time, so I love the idea of owning another one. In Chicago, they now charge you for a bag when you are out shopping. So if I don’t remember to bring them along with me, a roomy tote is perfect for carrying my little purchases.
How adorable are these shoes?!?! I’m obsessed. I usually go for a wedge in the summer time, but a chunky heel is a good alternative. And these are on sale!
This Spring, I have a few baby showers to attend, so I’m already thinking about what to wear. I love that I can actually wear my favorite color, white, to these events. Bridal showers you have to let the bride shine, so no white!
I’m also on the hunt for a good nude flat for Spring time. I’ve seen this brand all over and I’ve been eyeing this pair and this pair. I just can’t decide if I should buy the suede version or leather! Thoughts?!?
On My Radar
Lately I have been so obsessed with these Gucci loafers. They are so classic and I love that I could wear these to work, but also on the weekends. I would get so much wear out of them. I’m adding these to my Fall ‘wish list’!
Life Updates
- I feel like my life has been really boring these last few weeks, so I’m really sorry. I’ve been working out a lot and blogging! And researching new skincare products to try!
- Ok, I’m lying I do have one mini update. We started a while ago leaving Addie out of her crate in the mornings and asking the dog walker to put her back in once he leaves. We have slowly been transitioning her away from it because it takes up a ton of space in our tiny apartment! And for the past two weeks we have let her stay out all day. So she isn’t in her crate at all and has free roam of the house. She hasn’t done anything to our walls or chewed anything else up. Crossing my fingers she keeps up the good behavior because we have no room for her crate!
Have a wonderful weekend and happy shopping!
