I am no Martha Stewart here, by any means, but I like to pretend I am! My mom is really good in the kitchen and she’s always trying new recipes for the holidays. And we love being her guinea pigs! So I like to think I’ve learned a thing or two from her. It’s kind of funny because growing up, I loved to watch cooking shows. And I still do occasionally like to cook and bake, but I always feel like I never have enough time. I would rather take the easy way out instead of standing in the kitchen all day.
A few years ago she made this super easy Thanksgiving dessert recipe and ever since it’s a go to for me. Mainly, because Kurt loves it. And, did I mention that it was super easy? For me, the hardest part is always finding all of the ingredients. I mean, who knows where condensed milk is at the grocery store? I sure don’t. But after you get the six ingredients that you need to make this- it’s super easy from there. And yes- it only takes SIX ingredients!
I made this a few weeks ago for Kurt and I plan on making it again for Thanksgiving. Here is the recipe that I follow:
Ingredients
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- 1-15 oz. can of pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie mix)
- 1-14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk
- 1- 8 oz tub of cool whip
- 1/2 bag Heath Bits
- Caramel Sundae Sause
Directions
- Mix together the cake mix and the pumpkin puree. Do not follow the directions on the box on how to make a cake. Mix the two ingredients together only.
- Pour batter into a greased 9×13 pan and bake for at 350 degrees for about 25 minutes.
- Remove the cake and let it cool for about 10 minutes.
- Use the end of a wooden spoon to poke holes in the cake.
- Pour the sweetened condensed milk all over the cake. This will fill in the holes and soak in.
- Refrigerate for 30 minutes. My best results are when I refrigerate overnight!
- Remove cake from refrigerator and spread the cool whip all over. Drizzle with caramel sauce and sprinkle with heath bits.
- If you did refrigerate overnight already, it’s ok to serve. If not, refrigerate overnight for the best taste!
- Add lots of caramel sauce and heath bits to make it more sweet. To make it less sweet, don’t add as much.
Wishing everyone a lovely Thanksgiving with your family and friends!!! (And who’s secretly excited for Black Friday shopping?!? #guilty).
